Spirit level showed that the external wall of the building was leaning outwards by a substantial amount.
The cause of the outward lean was failure of the connection between this main bracing timber and the timber on the wall. Failure was caused by decay due to water penetrating through the roof covering onto the timber.
Moisture levels were high within the timber frame and decay had started. This was due to rainwater soaking through the outside wall.
Advanced decay of timber beneath a short section of flat roof over a bay window.
Water has penetrated a timber framed internal wall because of overspill from a shower behind. This has caused decay within timbers.
The timber post in the foreground is part of the support for a cold water storage tank located within the roof void. Behind this is the header tank supplying the central heating system. Because of a fault in the heating system, hot water is being fed into the header tank. This is causing steam to rise decaying timberwork.
